This year for SHINE 2024, we had 80 teens and adult volunteers come together to serve others, grow in faith, and have fun!
We attended volunteered at Equestrian Connection where we repainted their fences, sorted Z-bars at the Northern Illinois Food Bank, organized and ran a fun outdoor games day for the youth living in the emergency PADS Lake County shelter in Mundelein, built beds with our St. Joseph Bed Ministry, served guests and organized food at our St. Joseph Food Pantry, hosted a free breakfast for our parish with over 100 people attending, created meals for children in need with Feed My Starving Children, and SO MUCH MORE!
Outside of our service, we grew in faith by attending daily Mass, participating in the sacrament of Reconciliation, and having a reflection each day led by a different member of our clergy (Fr. Emanuel, Fr. Jake, Fr. Martin, and Dcn. Dan).
We had fun playing 9-square, water wars, drawing funny pictures, playing volleyball, hanging out at the park, and making new friends throughout the week. We had the honor of Cardinal Cupich stopping by on Thursday to visit with our teens and volunteers. SHINE was even featured in several news outlets - ABC7 Chicago, Chicago Catholic, and the Lake County Chronicle - showcasing the incredible impact we were making.
Thank you so much to everyone who helped make SHINE 2024 a success! See you next year!
