Faith Formation Commission

In our parish community, we believe in Catholic education that enriches, educates, and forms the faith life of each member, from childhood through adulthood. We believe in education that fosters continued growth in faith beyond preparation for sacraments.

The Faith Formation Commission strives to coordinate programs, activities and processes that unite the efforts of our parish to enhance religious education for adults, teens and children. This Commission is a forum whereby issues involving the religious education of all age groups can be discussed and plans developed which address these issues.

Adult Faith Formation (Bible Study)
This consists of small groups where we share and discuss what God wishes to reveal to us through His Word. We have one group that meets on Friday mornings at St. Joseph's where babysitting is offered. There is a Wednesday morning and an evening group and a Saturday morning group, all of which meet in homes of the participants. There is also a Seasonal Bible Study group that meets in the parish on Thursday mornings for an hour during the fall, Advent, Lent and Easter seasons.

Endowment Board
The Endowment Board uses financial contributions to ensure perpetual support of faith formation for all parishioners: child, youth, adult. The Fund is managed by the Endowment Board of Directors comprised of St. Joseph parishioners who represent the leadership groups of the parish. The funds are invested through a professional management firm. Annual spending depends on the performance of the Fund.

Refreshing our Faith: an Educational Series for Adult Catholics
A monthly series of formative and engaging presentations on our faith which promise a down to earth and understandable perspective on topics of our Catholic Faith. The sessions are an hour and a half with reading material provided beforehand. The cost is $4.00 per session. There are also two mini-courses offered, one in the fall and one in the spring, each are 5 sessions in length. The cost is determined by the resources needed per course.

Religious Education Program for Children: Our program is dedicated to supporting the faith life of your family. Our weekly sessions extend, in a more formal way, the informal practices of faith you already do in your home: family prayer at meals, holiday observances, celebration of sacraments as a family, celebration together at Mass, reading to your children about God and discussions around the dinner table about ways we live our faith.... all in the context of daily life. Our program offers three options during the year: 1) TRADITIONAL PROGRAM: Sunday or Tuesday sessions (K-8th); 2) FAITH WEAVING: A once a month intergenerational family experience (adults and children); Sunday or Friday evenings.

Catechist
Catechists are people of faith, sharing their faith with the children of our Parish. Some have children in the program; some do not. Some have experience teaching; most do not. All you need is a willing heart, a desire to pass on our faith and a sense of ministry. Also needed is a willingness to come for training and meetings, to prepare well, and to nurture the future of the church. This Ministry offers a chance to grow in your own faith and strengthen your sense of belonging to our parish community. We provide clearly written text material with on-going support from a grade level coordinator. All crafts, music, materials videos, etc. are also provided. Training includes two workshops, four formation meetings during the year and an opportunity to attend diocesan workshops with an exciting variety of topics.
Time commitment: 23 Sessions on Sunday or Tuesday held from mid September through the end of April, or once a month for an hour and a half. Groups and numbers are limited: 8th grade groups are taught in homes; 18 sessions and participation in post-Confirmation CFL (Confirmed For Life) events.

Babysitters -Adult and Teen help needed

This active, faith-filled parent group supports the Religious Education program through family activities, curriculum enrichment and social outreach. Choose to volunteer for a variety of events/committees.

Hallway Monitor
Hallway volunteers monitor various locations throughout the building for the safety of our children during our Sunday and Tuesday sessions. These volunteers choose their time; parents often help while their child is in class. Whether you are able to volunteer once a month or every week, bring your coffee, newspaper or even your laptop! We welcome your help with this important position.

Office Volunteers
Many hands do indeed make light work! During our weekly sessions on Sundays, Tuesdays or a few hours during the day as needed for one-time projects. Volunteers enjoy coffee and camaraderie while helping with mailings, collecting attendance, phone work, preparing crafts, collating program materials, etc.
Time Commitment: While your children are in their sessions or on an as-needed basis to help in the office with a special project, an all family mailing, collating of materials, and other one time or occasional assistance.
