Jeremiah, Chapter 18 Then the Lord said to Jeremiah, "Rise up, be off to the potter's house; there I will give you my message." I went down to the potter's house and there he was, working at the wheel. Whenever the object of clay which he was making turned out badly in his hand, he tried again, making of the clay another object of whatever sort he please. Then the word of the Lord came to me: "Can I not do to you, house of Isarel, as this potter has done?" says the Lord. Indeed, like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, house of Israel."
Spiritual Life is the center of the St. Joseph community of faith. As members of this community, we constantly renew our spiritual life through worship and recommit ourselves to our common mission of discipleship and service to others.

Questions You Might Have About the Commission What is the Spiritual Formation Commission? It is an arm of the Parish Pastoral Council whose mission it is to provide support to our ministries and parishioners in the area of spiritual life and faith formation. We also work closely with all the ministries that are part of the spiritual life and faith formation life of the our parish. For a list of those ministries, please see below. What does the Spiritual Formation Commission do? We work together with parish ministries to support worship and programing already in place in our parish. In addition to that, we strive to take the broad view of spiritual and faith formation in the parish that can be lost when one is looking at one ministry or another. The Spiritual Formation Commission is responsible for the annual parish mission. They secure the mission speaker, coordinate the event with other ministries and provide support through their presence. How does one become a member of the Spiritual Formation Commission? If you feel called to become part of this leadership ministry and a desire to help grow the spiritual and faith formation aspects of parish life, we would love for you to become part of this commission. Please contact the Parish Pastoral Council liason to the commission, Mike Harrison, and he will be happy to talk with you about membership.

Bereavement: The Bereavement Ministers meet with the family of the deceased to plan the funeral liturgy. They describe the workings of the funeral liturgy and the meaning of the symbols used at the liturgy, help the family to select the readings and music, and gather memories of the deceased to be incorporated in the funeral homily. The minister is with the family at the funeral liturgy to help direct them as they participate in the various parts of the liturgy. It would be helpful if you are someone who is compassionate and supportive. Training is provided. Time Commitment is 6-8 hours per funeral Women of the parish donate side dishes, prepare the room, and serve the funeral luncheon. They provide cleanup afterwards. Funeral luncheons are provided upon request to St. Joseph parishioners upon the death of a loved one. Infant Baptism: Parents attend an evening of reflection held on the second Monday each month to prepare for the baptism of their infant children. Parents experience the power of baptism through the rich use of story and image as a means to uncover the deep meaning of the use of the sacrament. An experience of prayer completes the evening empowering parents in their role as primary teachers of their childrenBaptismal Garments Ministry of Care: There are many in our community who are unable to participate in the Mass each day. They may be sick at home, hospitalized, or reside in a nursing home. St. Joseph parishioners, through the Ministry of Care, bring the gift of Jesus to such people who might otherwise remain invisible and forgotten members of our Catholic community. Ministers of Care are sent forth from Mass each day to visit the sick, homebound and disabled at Condell, Manor Care, Liberty Towers, Spring Meadows and Winchester House in addition to visits to individual homesReaders Families who proclaim the reading from the Sacred Scriptures to the assembly. |
